The Evolution of BVSA PE Accounting Branch
BVSA PE has become a cornerstone of accounting and financial services in the Eastern Cape, starting its journey back in early 2016. At the time, Roedie van der Merwe, who owned a small practice in Port Elizabeth and held a 33% share in a firm in Grahamstown, was exploring expansion opportunities. Upon seeing a job advert from BVSA seeking an accountant in PE, Roedie reached out, leading to a pivotal Skype meeting with Pieter that laid the groundwork for BVSA’s expansion in the region.
Roedie’s alignment with BVSA’s vision spurred a partnership that initiated with the pursuit of acquiring local practices. One of the first acquisitions was Business Admin Services in PE. This acquisition was finalized with a takeover on January 1, 2017, marking the start of a series of strategic expansions. Danie Augustyn, the previous owner, transitioned his clients before retiring, enriching BVSA with valuable relationships and local expertise.
In 2017, the expansion continued as BVSA PE acquired a block of fees in Uitenhage from Louis de Swart and integrated the MR Financial in Port Alfred into its growing network. Each acquisition brought new clients, expertise, and community ties, strengthening BVSA’s local presence.
Over the years, BVSA PE didn’t just grow in numbers but also in services and reach. In 2018, the acquisition of “The Tax Doctor” added further depth to its offerings. By late 2019, Roedie van der Merwe took over as the head of the PE branch, integrating his own clients into BVSA and ensuring a seamless transition as the branch continued to evolve.
The year 2020 was pivotal as BVSA PE expanded its footprint by acquiring Munro Accounting and integrating the clients from Taxation Solutions, though without additional staff from the latter. This was followed by partnerships and new branches opening in Plettenberg Bay/Knysna, managed by Michelle Thomas, and in Somerset East through a partnership with Bennie Botha of Bennie Botha Chartered Accountants.
By 2021, BVSA PE partnered with Blignaut Wealth Management, venturing into financial services and further diversifying its offerings. This expansion continued into 2022 with the acquisition of Delport Tax Help and the addition of new team members across its branches.
Today, BVSA PE boasts four branches and a financial services division, staffed by a dedicated team of 30 professionals. Led by Roedie, with support from key figures like Michelle Thomas in Plettenberg Bay, Bennie Botha in Somerset East, Angelique Els in PE, and Wianca Claasen in Uitenhage, BVSA PE exemplifies a dynamic and client-focused culture that prioritizes excellent service and community engagement.
